We’re all a part of one village: Hank’s Friends. |
When Hank was born, we felt so blessed with the most tremendous and wonderful addition to our world. But time passed… and the typical progressions expected of a child weren’t there. We found ourselves lost. Alone. We began asking questions that no one we knew had ever asked. Hank required specialists, accommodations and assistance at levels we didn’t recognize, or often didn’t even think to provide. We thought we had a village, but these new challenges, just as they were new to us, were intimidating to so many around us. Instead of feeling able and empowered to provide Hank what he needed, we desperately and constantly sought data, and were met with doubt around every corner. Is there such a thing as a special needs pediatrician? A special needs dentist? Where do we take our child, who has sensory issues, for a haircut? Would our child ever get to go to a movie theater, a baseball game, or a family night of bowling? |  | What we learned through the years, however, was that these questions were not unique to us. These are common questions asked by those touched by the special needs community – but the answers to those questions haven’t been as easy to source. Hank’s Friends was founded to help anyone seeking the answers to those questions, and more. We seek to make finding this information, and the services required, simple and effective, so that the time you have as a family won’t be lost in desperate search. We want to give you back the gift of time, so that you can spend that gift with those you love most. Because our community is aware of what it’s like to live on the “outside,” and in uncertainty, we recognize that others need help, just as we have. James 2:26 tells us that “faith apart from works is dead,” and inspired by that, we have created Hank’s Friends, a community network designed for you, for us, to help navigate the wonderful world in which we live. |
 | MissionOur mission at Hank’s Friends is simple. We endeavor to serve our typical and atypical communities by providing resources and assistance to those in need without our communities. By helping our special needs community members navigate the world, connecting people to resources, we promote togetherness in a positive and empowering environment. By accepting what makes us similar and what makes us special, we can grow together as a stronger, more inclusive community. |
